2018 Super Conference

The first ever joint New England Association for College Admission Counseling (NEACAC) and New York State Association for College Admission Counseling (NYSACAC) Super Conference will provide colleagues who serve students working towards post-secondary opportunities throughout the Northeast an experience that is full of educational and professional networking opportunities. Bringing together colleagues from Admissions Offices, College Offices, Community Based Organizations, Independent Counselors, School Counseling Offices, and more, we will take time to come together, share our voices, celebrate the positive work we conduct with the students and families we serve, and set the table for the future of our industry and association.

Schedule

The Annual Meeting & Conference: The Annual Meeting & Conference will take place June 6th - 8th, 2018 as the Super Conference for both NEACAC and NYSACAC. The 21st annual Coming Together Conference will take place June 5th-6th. Learn more >

 

Transportation

Marist will be offering complimentary bus transportation from select locations within New York State and New England to and from the Conference. We’re offering buses to and from Rochester, NY to Marist with stops in Syracuse, Utica, and Albany, as well as buses to and from Boston (Waltham, MA) to Marist with stops in Worcester, MA, and Danbury, CT. We are also offering complimentary shuttles to and from the Poughkeepsie Train Station for those taking Metro North or Amtrak. For more information or to register, visit our Transportation Page

Volunteer Management

The Volunteer Management and Recreation Committee for this year's SuperConference will work at managing this year's volunteers at our conference.  NEACAC members are familiar with the call to assistance during the conference, but for our NYSACAC colleagues, this will be a break from the past.  Marist students will still be there wearing their bright polo shirts, but YOU now have an opportunity to actively engage in the implementation of a program, event and/or activity at this year's conference.

Newcomers

Are you a first-time conference attendee? Attending the conference for the first time - and the Super Conference at that! - can be overwhelming. To help you maximize your experience at Marist, we invite all first-time attendees to join us for the Newcomers Orientation and Newcomers Reception on Wednesday, June 6th.

At Orientation, we’ll begin by welcoming you to the Conference and providing helpful information for ways to navigate everything from session selection to the beloved Bingo & Bocce evening events. At the Reception, we’ll introduce you to an enthusiastic team of NEACAC/NYSACAC mentors during fun and informal networking hour, allowing you to get your questions answered while networking with some of the profession’s most experienced counselors.
 

Recreation

The Recreation Committee has some great ways to get your workout in and try something new! Get your sneakers, dance shoes, and yoga mats in hand to be ready! We’ve got open tennis court time, sunrise yoga, a runners/walkers meet-up along the Hudson River, Boot Camp with Courtney Kipp, and Zumba Fitness with Mary Beth Luzitano! 

The Athletic Facility (#25) is available free of charge to Super Conference guests over 17 years of age; conference badge is required for admission. Hours of operation are 6:00 am - 6:00 pm Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and 6:00 - 11:00 am on Friday.

 

Middle Management

Wednesday, June 6 | 8:30 am - 1:00 pm | Hancock Center, 2023 (#14)

The Middle Management Workshop is a pre-conference session designed for admissions professionals who are looking to grow their skills. Attendees will likely be at the Assistant, Senior Assistant, or Associate Director level, and have responsibility for managing either people or projects in their office. Topics to be included in this workshop include building a team and establishing a culture, data analysis, and a discussion of the landscape of enrollment leadership.

Presenters include deans and directors of admission, who will leave ample time for collaboration and discussion.

Presenters for the 2018 Workshop include:

  • Mary Napier, Principal Consultant, Napier Executive Search

    A Visit with Vassar College is also available as an excursion on Thursday evening.

*Marist College campus tours will be available on Tuesday at 10 am, Thursday at 8 am, and Friday at 8:30 am. Tours will depart from the Admission Office in the Student Center Rotunda.

 

CBO Fair

Greetings from the CBO Fair Committee! The Community Based Organization committee is happy to announce that there will be a CBO Fair for all to learn about the regions community-based work that is being done! 

For CBO's, please register for the fair when registering for the conference. For all those looking to learn more, be sure to stop by the CBO Fair on Thursday, June 7th from 1-2pm.  Check the conference schedule for location.

Grants

It is a well-known fact that high school counselors, especially those in public schools, do not have the financial support to take advantage of professional development opportunities.  Bringing them to this exceptional conference supports not only their own professional development but also supports the college aspirations of the students they serve. As such, we are asking our college partners to support the attendance of one or more high school counselors by donating a grant now. As a donor, you will be among the first to have your institution's name on the conference website, where it will remain for the coming months.  The cost is reasonable, and the experience for both your colleagues and most importantly: their students, is incomparable.

Executive Leadership

Wednesday, June 6 | 3:30 - 5:15 pm | Hancock Center, Board Room (#14)

Enrollment management leaders from colleges and universities will join with guidance and counseling directors from the K-12 sector—to discuss how we use data to inform our respective practices. Special attention will be paid to WICHE data and its use in the college admissions process.

Some topics we’ll explore include: What data does the WICHE report offer? How do college colleagues currently use that data? How can the insights of the WICHE report inform the practices of both colleges and schools? How do we “on both sides of the desk” need to inform ourselves about industry trends? These are among the significant questions we’ll examine.

We’re also fortunate to have Mr. Andrew Palumbo, Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, lead and guide a robust discussion about the use of WICHE and other data sources in college planning. There will be time for college and school professionals to meet separately in breakout sessions and then together as one group after hearing from Mr. Palumbo. We expect this forum to provide valuable information to better understand future trends that could impact the work we do helping students search, apply, and enroll in college.

Fundraising

Location: Student Center (#31)

Raffle & BINGO: Raffle tickets and BINGO cards will be on sale at the Fundraising table during open registration hours, as well as at major conference events. Raffle winners will be notified by text message, and names will be posted on the NEACAC and NYSACAC Facebook groups and Twitter feed (@NEACAC and @NYSACAC). All items will need to be picked up by 10:00 am on Friday, June 8th in the Admission Office Rotunda or they will be donated to Camp College.

Silent and Chance Auction: Enjoy bidding on or “chancing” your luck to win “big-ticket” items that have been donated by our colleagues, member-institutions, and organizations & businesses throughout New England and New York. The Silent Auction and Chance Auction will both close promptly at 2:30 pm on Thursday, June 7th prior to the boarding of the Hudson River Valley Excursions, so make sure to get your bids in! The Chance Auction (otherwise known as a ‘Tricky Tray’ or ‘Penny Social’) will allow conference-goers to have the opportunity to purchase a number of Chance Auction tickets and place them in the basket(s) for any auction prize they hope to win. The ticket drawn from each basket will be the winner of that prize. Winners do not have to be present to win, we will text the winners to notify them that they have won along with further details. All items will need to be picked up by 10:00 am on Friday, June 8th in the Admission Office Rotunda or they will be donated to Camp College.

Happy Camper Ribbons: We are continuing the tradition of selling happy camper ribbons with proceeds going to both NEACAC and NYSACAC Camp College Programs.
