Thursday, June 7, 2018 Excursions
Thursday night’s dinner options include an experience highlighting the best the Hudson Valley has to offer. Buses will be departing from campus to escort guests to various locations. After the excursion experience concludes, buses will take guests to the Walkway Over the Hudson for dessert, drinks, and the beautiful sunset. Finally, buses will return to campus for an exciting concert put on by Broadway’s “Movin’ Out” star, Michael Cavanaugh.
PLEASE NOTE: Cars are not permitted at the excursion sites or the Walkway Over the Hudson. The only transportation for these events will be Marist buses. Attendees not participating in an excursion who wish to participate in the Walkway Over the Hudson event may board the 7:45 pm buses departing from Marist’s Cornell Boathouse (#5).

Culinary Institute of America Food Exploration
The Culinary Institute of America, founded in 1946, is widely recognized as the world’s premier culinary college, with an industry-wide reputation for excellence and more than 49,000 alumni. The Institute has Bachelor's and Associate degrees in Food Business Management, Culinary Arts, Baking & Pastry Arts, Culinary Science, Applied Food Studies, and Hospitality Management. After a campus tour and presentation, you will be treated to a tour de feast that will feature:
French-inspired food and beverage at the Bocuse Restaurant, authentic regional Italian food and beverage at the Caterina de' Medici, farm-to-table food and beverage at the American Bounty, and modern interpreted pub food and beverage at the Post Road Brew House. The evening will consist of heavy passed hors d'oeuvres, savory stations, dessert buffet, beer, wine, specialty cocktails, and coffee service.
Buses will board by the Hancock Center (#14) and Foy Townhouses (#10) at 3:30 pm.

A Visit with Vassar
An Evening at Scenic and Historic Vassar College
Consistently ranked one of the top liberal arts colleges in the country, our neighboring Vassar College is as well-known for the beauty of its 1,000-acre property as it is for pioneering achievements in both women’s and liberal arts education. From the well-manicured lawns and formal gardens that make up the main campus to the meadows and woodlands of the Vassar Farm, you can enjoy the afternoon on a leisurely campus tour, followed by a lively social hour. After soaking in the picturesque campus, you will join respected members of the Vassar College Admission Office and senior administrators for a sit-down dinner before leaving for the evening’s festivities at the Walkway Over the Hudson. Preference for this program will be given to secondary school counselors.

An Evening with FDR
Franklin Delano Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum, Hyde Park
History comes alive at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum, the nation’s first presidential library, just 10 minutes north of Marist College. A brand new museum tells the story of the Roosevelt presidency beginning in the depths of the Great Depression and continuing through the New Deal years and World War II with an emphasis on both Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt’s relationship with the American people and the world. Special interactive features, immersive audio-visual theaters, archival documents, and rarely-seen artifacts convey the dramatic story of the Roosevelt era. Tour the museum, hear “behind-the-scenes stories,” and enjoy a delicious onsite BBQ. We promise you the presidential treatment!

The Historic Huguenots
Explore this Historic Street
The Hudson Valley is rich with historical significance. The Huguenots were one of the founding groups in the New Paltz region. Come join us for a private street fair highlighting their community, historic buildings, and ties to the Underground Railroad while revisiting customs from centuries past. In addition, there will be interactive demonstrations including glassblowing, singing, blacksmithing, encounters with native birds of prey, wassailing, and a musket demonstration from the 5th regiment. Dinner will be a relaxed BBQ buffet featuring one of the most highly sought after local breweries - Sloop.

Hospitality on the Hudson (AT CAPACITY!)
Hudson River Cruise and BBQ
Summer is a magnificent season in the Hudson Valley, and there’s no better time to take a Hudson River Cruise. After being picked up at the Cornell Boathouse on Marist’s riverfront, vibrant colors of blossomed foliage and the scent of sweet fruit trees breezing through the warm evening air will have you exhaling tension and letting relaxation sweep over you.
In addition to the sensational sunset views, your experienced tour guide will point out the sumptuous riverfront estates, picturesque Hudson River lighthouses, and quaint sleepy villages surrounded by vineyards, orchards, and scenic preservation sites. This cruise offers a memorable and unique perspective on the Hudson River Valley. When you are not on the cruise, you can enjoy local BBQ food and beer from one of the Hudson Valley’s leading breweries, Newburgh Brewery. Lawn games, music, and scenic views will be available.
This event will begin at 3:00 pm at the Marist Cornell Boathouse (#5).
Buses will depart for the Walkway at 7:45 pm.

Experience life along the Hudson at the Payne Mansion
Raymond A. Rich bequeathed to Marist a 60-acre riverfront estate in the Ulster County Town of Esopus that contains one of the most historically and architecturally significant homes in the Hudson Valley. Built in 1905 by Colonel Oliver Hazard Payne, a brigadier general in the Civil War, the “Payne Mansion,” also known over the years as “Omega” and "Wiltwyck," is a 42,000-square-foot Beaux Arts-style palazzo designed by the famed Manhattan firm of Carrère and Hastings, architects of the New York Public Library and the Frick Museum. The Payne Mansion now serves as the Hub for the Marist Leadership Institute
Enjoy a breathtaking tour of the mansion followed by a Civil War reenactment overlooking the Hudson River. A buffet dinner and Hudson Valley wines provided by The Millbrook Winery will be served under a tent on the estate’s beautiful grounds.

Dinner on Your Own
Relaxing in Rhinebeck
The Dinner on Your Own option is for conference attendees who want to explore a charming local town. Guests will be responsible for making their own dinner reservations and will need to cover the cost of their meals. Bus service will be provided from Marist to Rhinebeck and to the Walkway for the evening’s final event.
There are many delicious dining options in Rhinebeck. Among these is the Fosters Coach House Tavern, which is owned by soon-to-be Marist graduate Elijah Bender (Class of 2018).
The quaint town of Rhinebeck is popular with locals and tourists alike and is a favorite weekend getaway for folks living in New York City. On this excursion, you will have time to shop the boutiques and enjoy a fine dinner at one of the many establishments. Regardless of which dining experience you choose, you will enjoy a taste of Rhinebeck, one of New York’s favorite towns.
